Therapeutic Approach
Parents who sense that their child is not responding seek every possibility to help them find a way to develop their child’s life skills.
The attention given to the child’s inherent latent abilities when treatment begins provides the cornerstone for the therapeutic approach. The emotional and intellectual challenges presented to the child in treatment are not didactic, structured commands. They are related to the child’s potential for social interaction and nurtured by Reciprocal Play Therapy (RPT) that brings mutual pleasure to the child, the therapist and parents.
Relational Therapy
Relational therapy that is the essence of the Mifne model acknowledges that the child who can begin to derive pleasure from the developing relationships with parents and therapists will begin to be open to learning and communicating.
The three week intensive period of treatment takes place in the safety of the treatment room where the child is in individual therapy (RPT) for seven to ten hours daily, seven days of the week.
In addition, treatment sessions take place in the swimming pool, playground and include horseback riding.
In order to develop a spontaneous inclination to relate to his environment, the treatment is dedicated first and foremost to helping the child develop a sense of security, trust, comfort, acceptance and affection as the basis for encouraging him to become engaged.
This process is facilitated by trained therapists who are able to help the child derive pleasure from contact and communication, stimulating him to be motivated to seek pleasure from their social interaction.
This holistic approach regards the child as an individual with specific needs. Much thought goes into issues of his functional development such as eating habits, sleeping patterns, use of language, motor skills, and hygiene.
